Lambda Recovery Weekend began with a conversation at a coffee house between four recovering alcoholics, two men and two women. They recognized the need to encourage unity within the San Diego LGBTQ+ community. Collectively they decided a weekend retreat would provide it. Although the retreat is primarily for the LGBTQ+ community, everyone is welcome.
The founding members chose the mountains of Julian, as the inaugural unification event. In 1997 the very first Lambda Recovery Weekend at Cedar Glen in Julian, CA. Eventually, the retreat was moved to Camp Stevens and continues to support the community in its recovery. We are not affiliated with any other "Lambda" named organization. The "San Diego" was officially dropped from the non-profit's legal name in 2022 to better reflect the growing nature of the organization.


Lambda Recovery Weekend is a transformational spiritual retreat designed for LGBTQ+ individuals in recovery, focusing on unity and healing. Participants engage in fellowship, attend 12-step meetings, and enjoy various workshops and activities that deepen their spiritual experiences. The retreat offers inclusive packages that cover lodging, meals, and programming, with options for financial assistance to support those with financial hardship. This endeavor fosters community and spiritual growth among attendees, ensuring a supportive environment for personal recovery journeys.
